Game overshadowed by Ceri Lois injury

Ceri Lois (blue) in past action for Bangor

CPDM Bangor 1876 5 (Ellis, E Jones, J Roberts, Peters, F Roberts)

Llangefni Town Ladies 1 (Cook)

All the good play on the field in this pre-season friendly was overshadowed by the injury to 1876 striker Ceri Lois.

The 20-year-old suffered yet another dislocated shoulder – the latest in a long line – which put her in hospital and now threatens to keeper her out for the rest of the season.

Everyone wishes the Anglesey-based player a speedy recovery.

Today’s match was played over three, 30 minutes sessions due to the heat.

Bangor started off the stronger side, taking a lot of the possession and pinning Llangefni in their own half. The hosts had many shots but the fantastic Llangefni goalkeeper Jessica Marshall kept it all square.

1876 eventually got the breakthrough after a long period of pressure, Awel Ellis finishing a well-worked move.

The next Bangor goal came shortly after from the in-form Elin Jones. She took the ball in the middle of the park and drove at the defence, taking on all in her path then finding the bottom corner.

Llangefni upped their game after the break, being a lot more aggressive in the tackle and winning the 50-50’s and this eventually led to a goal through a counter attack and a fantastic finish from Jade Cook on her debut.

Cefni built in confidence and stayed on top until a big crunching tackle by Elin Jones turned the tide.

This seemed to wake Bangor up and they started to play their football again.

1876 began to take control and this shortly led to the goal of the match. Some lovely link play in the middle of the park led to Jordan Roberts smashing ball over the goalkeeper from a good 25 yards out.

Soon after a surge down the right-hand side saw Gwenno Peters using her pace to break the line and slot the ball past the goalkeeper…. 4-1 end of second period.

Bangor were that little more clinical in period three, although both sides produced some great football.

It became 5-1 when Ffion Mair Roberts provided a cracking finish from the right into the left hand corner.

The game finished early due to a fall from Ceri Lois who dislocated her shoulder and is unfortunately in hospital.

Elin Jones from Bangor was player of the match, but new side Llangefni showed great will and passion.

The main message from today is… good luck to Ceri Lois and a speedy recovery.
