Ellie Jones scored three for Bethel at Rhyl
Hat-tricks from Ellie Jones and Fflur Williams were the main feature of a dazzling Bethel display at Belle Vue today.
Fresh from the news they had earned a place in Tier 2 North next season, the visitors started this long-distance friendly well and took the lead through young Ellie Jones, yet another product of Bethel’s under-16 side.
Rhyl pulled themselves level when Catrin Davies scored with a shot from outside the box.
In the ninth minute it was 2-1 to the Caernarfon-area side when Ellie Jones brilliantly set up Fflur Williams to find the net.
On 25 minutes Bethel added a third when Katie Midwinter passed a defender and netted from the edge of the box.
A quality through ball from Mari Gibbard released Ellie Jones to score her second of the afternoon.
Before the break Rhyl notched their second when Laura Williams headed in a Ceri Purvis free kick.
Three minutes into the second half, Ellie Jones completed her hat-trick following a wonderful Midwinter pass.
Ellie had also netted three for Bethel in her previous appearance – against Llanystumdwy last December!
Fflur Williams made it 6-2 in the 55th minute with a smart finish on the turn.
And 10 minutes later Williams completed her treble with a stunning finish, chipping the away keeper from a tight angle.
As is always the case in pre-season games, results are not of major importance but performances are.
From that point of view, both sides could take positives and will come on for the experience.
