Llandudno Junction manager Sarah Colville hailed her team’s convincing 4-0 win at Aberystwyth as their best performance of the 2012-13 season in the Welsh Premier League.

Rhiannon Mahoney (2), Stacey Tradewell and Sofie Owen were the Railway Girls’ scorers in a highly impressive display.

“It was definitely our best performance so far,” said Colville. “Our wingers ran the show and we were in control for more or less the whole 90 minutes.”

The visitors had a few good efforts on goal before they took the lead midway through the first half.

Mahoney broke down the flank and crossed into the 18-yard box where Tradewell applied a fine finish.

Aber rallied, but found the Junction back-four of Jess Wall, Claire Colville, Gail Naylor and Cat Higgott in solid form and on the rare occasions they were breached keeper Jess Hughes dealt competently with everything thrown her way.

Junction doubled their lead on 42 minutes when Owen turned smartly and sped down the middle before threading a fine through ball to Mahoney who confidently beat the keeper.

And there was more to come from the visitors before the interval as Owen added a third with a tap-in.

At half time Colville warned her players there was no room for complacency.

“I stressed to them the need to play hard for 90 minutes as I’ve seen a few games lost where we’ve led at half time,” added the manager.

With the boss’s sound advice ringing in their ears, Junction were on their game from the start of the second period and Hollie Farr set up Mahoney for her second to seal the win.

With Tradewell and Michaela Stephenson running the midfield and Owen and Jenny Davies a constant danger up front, there was no stopping the Junction.

In the later stages, Steph Short and Katie Lewtas joined the action up front and provided further threat.

Wrexham 6 Newcastle Emlyn 1

Lowri Edwards and Lyndsey Rodger were both on the mark twice as fourth-placed Wrexham made it three league wins in four starts at the expense of Newcastle Emlyn at Colliers Park.

The hosts went close to breaking the deadlock on seven minutes when Edwards’ firm strike came back off the bar.

Dave Taylor’s side grabbed the lead on 16 minutes when Rodger fed a good ball into the box and following a scramble Steph Taylor smashed the ball home.

Edwards added a second after 23 when she performed marvels to create space for herself before applying a deadly finish.

The third home goal arrived five minutes later when Liv Pridding-Hull lofted a fine delivery over the visitors’ defence and Syd Hinchcliffe drilled the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

Emlyn replied five minutes from the break through Stacey John, but right on half time the Dragons made it 4-1 when Rodger slammed in her first after fine link play between Jade Davies and Edwards.

Wrexham went nap on 51 minutes when Rodger’s shot was too good for the visiting keeper, Hinchcliffe providing the assist.

Edwards then latched on to a long ball and fired home Wrexham’s sixth after 62 minutes.

John hit the bar twice for the travelling side, but at the end of 90 minutes the hosts were more than worthy winners.
