Happy birthday to talented midfielder Shannon Jade Jones – 20 today.
Now part of the exciting young CPD Merched Bethel squad, Shannon has previously played for Bangor City and Bethesda Athletic in the North Wales Women’s League.
Born on March 3, 2001, Shannon emerged through the ranks of the Bangor City Girls set-up before joining the senior side for the 2017-18 season.
She scored in her first league game against Amlwch Town, and enjoyed a very promising season at Nantporth playing alongside the likes of Cerys Gadd, Lexi Crawley, Tash Matthews and top-scorer Ceri Lois.
In 2018-19, Shannon joined newly-formed Bethesda Athletic Ladies.
Playing attacking midfield, she had a great season as Pesda won the North Wales Division Two title at the first attempt, racking up 10 straight wins to be crowned champions. Shannon notched six goals during the season.
When Bethesda folded, Shannon was snapped up by Bethel last season and again she performed really well in a campaign curtailed to just a handful of games by Covid-19.
Shannon scored in each of two cup wins over Connah’s Quay Nomads by the scores of 8-0 and 4-2. Bethel were the only team to defeat Nomads over the season.
As for her most memorable game, dynamic, all-action midfielder Shannon rates her scoring senior debut for Bangor in a 4-0 win over Amlwch in 2017-18 as her best.
She considers the overall highlight of her career to date was playing at mighty Swansea City in the Welsh Cup last season.
She rates Amlwch’s Cerys Gadd and Lexi Crawley as her hardest opponents faced – Shannon was in the same Bangor City team as the Anglesey pair in 2017-18 – and as for best team mate played alongside, fellow Bethel player Angharad Evans is her choice.
Shannon is also one of those very rare people who do not like chocolate!
No Celebrations, Heroes or Quality Street today then!
