Noah Edwards: “There is nowhere else I’d rather be than Caernarfon Town”

Noah Edwards did not need asking twice when he was offered a new contract at Caernarfon Town.

The midfield dynamo insists there is nowhere else he would rather be than The Oval at this stage of his career.

Speaking exclusively to chairman Paul Evans on Caernarfon’s Facebook page, Noah said the backing of the famous Cofi Army was a big factor in his decision.

Noah is in his third season with the Canaries, having scored nine goals in 54 starts from mainly a central midfield position.

His energy and determination have endeared him greatly to the Town fans.

“It was an easy one for me as I’ve enjoyed my time at the club so far,” said the 24-year-old.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, especially when the fans come back in and pushing for Europe is the main aim of the club.”

Praising the impact the supporters, so sadly missed since the Welsh Government ruled Cymru Premier matches have to be played behind closed doors during the coronavirus pandemic, have on the players, Noah added: “One of the main things that entices you to the club is when you hear about how good the fans are. Especially at the level we play at, there is no-one else like it.”

Recalling playing in front of huge crowds in games versus Bangor City and The New Saints, he said: “Nowhere else will I get to play in front of crowds like that. It’s one of the main reasons I’m so happy at the club.”

It has been a testing 2020-21 campaign so far at The Oval, with new manager Huw Griffiths having to rebuild much of the squad last summer on a reduced budget, but at present the Canaries are an excellent fifth in the table, having taken 10 points from the last possible 12 before CPL football was suspended prior to Christmas.

Noah said: “In the summer a few players left, we knew we had to rebuild a team, and there was obviously Huw coming in as well.

“There’s been a couple of ups and downs during the season, but we showed good character to come back after the game Penybont game especially and go on a good run. Just before lockdown we were gelling together more, hopefully we can continue that.”

The settling-in process for new faces was made much easier through the likes of experienced players such as Gaz Edwards and Joe Williams making them welcome, said Noah.

As for his own role, Noah says he would prefer to always play in centre-midfield, but would operate anywhere for the team where needed.

Noah says the aim for the rest of this season – when or if it restarts – is to finish in the top six and qualify for Europe. Two seasons ago, the Cofis suffered heartbreak when they went down 3-2 to Cardiff Metropolitan in the play-offs.

“If we get into the play-offs, we’re waiting for the chance to put that right (the Met result from 2018-19),” he said.
