Remembering Rob….memories from CPD Bodedern’s 2006-07 season (part 3)

Anglesey football is devastated by the passing of former Bodedern, Llangefni Town and Gwalchmai manager Rob Hughes.

Grassroots North Wales has received some Bodedern FC match reports from the 2006-07 season, during which Rob became first team manager, having been appointed on November 22, 2006.

The reports were written and have been very kindly supplied by Col Smith, Bodedern secretary at the time.

This was Boded’s second season in the tier 2 Cymru Alliance. They finished ninth in 2005-06 and 14th in 2006-07.

Title-challengers Bala – who finished second this season two points behind champions Llangefni – picked up nothing from their visit to Bodedern.

The previous meeting at Bala saw Rob Hughes’ men go 3-0 down in the first 25 minutes but from then on an inspired Boded performance with only 10 men saw them unfortunate not to get something back in the second half.

In this return encounter, Bodedern soon showed their intentions to sit back and hit hard and fast on the break using the superior pace of Corey Sinnott, Deion Backhouse and Marc Evans.

A well placed pass from Gafyn Jones in midfield found Sinnott on the wing.

He dragged the defence wide and sent a perfect cross over for Evans to head in on 20 minutes.

Backhouse was unlucky on 23 minutes when his shot skimmed over the bar.

Bala seemed slightly stunned by what they were up against and the ref had to stop play on 35 minutes to ask the visitors’ bench to quieten down a bit.

Half-time: 1-0

Seven minutes into the second half, another fast break by Boded left Sinnott attacking the area from wide right.

Sinnott’s looped shot over Alan Tyrrell in goal for Bala just sneaked under the bar on 52 minutes. Bodedern 2 Bala 0.

Tyrrell later produced the save of the match when he touched a close range shot from Evans over the bar.

Two minutes from time saw Steve Fisher convert a penalty for the Lakesiders.

The final minutes saw both sides reduced to 10 men, Marc Evans being shown the red card after the linesman spotted an offence and flagged the ref.

About a minute later one of the Bala players was also dismissed.
