Anglesey football is devastated by the passing of former Bodedern, Llangefni Town and Gwalchmai manager Rob Hughes.

Grassroots North Wales has received some Bodedern FC match reports from the 2006-07 season, during which Rob became first team manager, having been appointed on November 22, 2006.

The reports were written and have been very kindly supplied by Col Smith, Bodedern secretary at the time.

This was Boded’s second season in the tier 2 Cymru Alliance. They finished ninth in 2005-06 and 14th in 2006-07.

Today we publish the last report in the Bodedern series. Huge thanks to Col Smith for his help, without which none of this trip down Memory Lane would have been possible.

We still plan to run other articles on Rob’s time at Gwalchmai and Llangefni Town.

Cymru Alliance League
Bodedern 3 (Evans 2, Sinnott) Llandyrnog United 2 (Roberts 2)

In blustery conditions Rob Hughes’ Bodedern team were to open the scoring on 35 minutes.

A sliced kick from Llandyrnog goalkeeper Arwel Hughes was followed by a defensive error to allow Marc Evans to score.

On 44 minutes a powerful volley was touched over the bar by Boded keeper Gareth OJ Roberts.

Just on the stroke of half-time Llandyrnog levelled through a Mark Roberts goal.

Half-time: Bodedern 1 Llandyrnog 1

Just three minutes into the second half, Mark Roberts was to score his second and handed Dyrny the lead.

Evans hit back for Bodedern on 55 minutes.

Llandyrnog failed to clear an attempt on goal properly and left Evans to head tidily into an open goal after the keeper had already committed to the earlier effort.

With the scores level both sides battled to find the winner, a heated challenge causing one of the Llandyrnog players to be dismissed on 70 minutes.

On 75 minutes Corey Sinnott found the winning goal direct from his corner kick, looping the ball high into the top corner.
