Much-travelled former Welsh Premier star Luke Holden is the latest known name to land at Prestatyn Town.

The 32-year-old wide man, who won the WPL title with Rhyl in 2008-09 and represented the Lilywhites in Europe against Partizan Belgrade, has also worn the colours of The New Saints, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Colwyn Bay, in their English pyramid days.

Holden has also had spells with Charlton Athletic and Wrexham.

Prestatyn manager John Lawless said: “I’ve known Luke a very long time and his experience will be a major plus for the squad.

He has experience of playing at the top level of the Welsh football pyramid and I’m delighted he has agreed to join Prestatyn Town subject to FAW clearance.”

Holden started out with Liverpool youth, aged 6, but was released by the club at the age of 12. He joined Everton’s youth teams for 18 months before moving to Tranmere Rovers as a trainee.

After being released in 2007, Holden signed for The New Saints for the 2007-08 season, making 27 league starts scoring six goals as the team finished in second place.

He left Saints at the end of the season, having short stints with Cammell Laird and Bradford Park Avenue before joining Rhyl in January 2009.

Holden had an unfortunate time with injuries at Belle Vue, but still scored four goals in 11 games and later featured in the Lilies’ Champions League qualifying matches against FK Partizan in July 2009.

A move to Football League Championship side Coventry City broke down after Holden was unable to agree personal terms and on September 1, 2009, he instead signed for League One team Charlton Athletic on a three-month loan deal.

He made just one appearance for the Addicks, in a 2–1 defeat to Southampton in the Football League Trophy, before returning to Rhyl in January 2010.

Holden joined Conference National side Wrexham on trial before signing on a 93-day emergency loan deal with the club on 1 February 2010, He made 15 appearances for the Dragons but was released at the end of the season.

Multiple moves followed to Droyslden, Chester, TNS, Formby, Gainsborough Trinity, Warrington Town and Colwyn Bay before landing at WPL side Connah’s Quay Nomads in January 2014.

He stayed at Deeside Stadium longer than at many clubs, helping them avoid relegation in 2013-14. Holden made 22 appearances for the Quay (five as substitute) and netted five times. He also picked up two red cards and eight yellows.

Marine, Radcliffe and Skelmersdale were among his most recent clubs.
