Ten of the best facts about goal machine Rosie Hughes on her latest birthday

Today sees Denbigh Town striker Rosie Hughes celebrate her latest birthday.

I’ve written a lot about Rosie’s football career in recent times, so to avoid repetition we’ll do things differently and present her 10 Best Bits (10 as her birthday is on the 10th)

1 Four goals v Rhyl (April 26, 2016)

Rosie once said she enjoyed scoring in derby matches against Rhyl more than anything, so she must have been totally in her element on a stormy, rainy night in 2016 when she found the net four times in an 8-2 win for Llandudno over the arch enemy from Belle Vue in a Welsh Premier League clash.

2 Top goalscorer trophies

Rosie has three top scorer trophies in her possession. Llandudno Ladies scored 233 Welsh Premier goals in their seven-and-a-bit top flight seasons and while it is not known who their all-time highest WPWL markswoman is, it is probably Rosie.

3 Welsh Cup run 2015-16

In Llandudno’s run to their only Welsh Cup final appearance in 2015-16, Rosie scored five goals in the tournament.

4 That run against Swansea City

In October 2015, Llandudno gave Swansea City a tough battle in the WPWL before losing 2-0 at Maesdu Park. Perhaps the highlight of the game was Rosie’s run from halfway, where she left all the Swans defence trailing in her wake. Unfortunately she didn’t score, but the Swansea back-line knew they had to be on alert after that.

5 Barefoot half-marathon

Best foot forward before a half-marathon challenge

In November 2020, Rosie ran a half-marathon barefoot for a local cause she felt passionate about. Nothing was going to stop her achieving her goal. She is now pondering over her next fund-raising challenge.

6 Photograph locations

Rosie enjoys doing things differently – one set of photos she had taken in 2019 prove that. In a fascinating bundle of snaps, she is seen riding a giant strawberry, striking a pose in an endless amount of hundreds and thousands and sitting on a unicorn.

7 Kinmel Bay success

Maybe not a lot of people know this, but Rosie won the North Wales Women’s League title as a teenager with Kinmel Bay back in 2012-13.

8 Kinmel Bay Under-16s Welsh Cup final

Rosie was in the cracking Kinmel Bay team which met Cardiff City in the 2011-12 Under-16 Welsh Cup final.
En route to the showpiece they beat Llanidloes 14-0, Caernarfon Town 6-1, Caerphilly Castle 3-2 and Cymla (Swansea) 3-2
Other players in the side included Sophie Jones, Kelsey Davies, Lucy Vaughan, Georgia Williams, Emilie Revitt and Louisha Doran.
Georgia, Kelsey, Louisha and Emilie all played for Wales U16’s. Emilie later made the full Wales squad and represented Liverpool.

9 Six goals in the Welsh Cup

Rosie must have a real liking for the Welsh Cup. Last season she scored six goals for Denbigh Town in an 8-2 hammering of Northop Hall in the competition.

10 Six more……

Rosie also grabbed a double hat-trick for Denbigh in a 12-2 win at Mountain Rangers in the NEWFA Cup last term.
