After one very happy event Sara is pining for another – the return of football

Sara Williams is looking forward to kicking a ball again six weeks after celebrating another major event in her life.

The 32-year-old, who has re-signed for Llandudno for the 2020-21 season, gave birth to her first daughter Hope in September.

That makes it a hat-trick of kids for the popular mum, whose 11 and 8-year-old sons also play football.

Sara has played for a number of clubs in her career and has always been respected as a player who gives 100 percent every time she steps on the field.

She started playing football at the age of eight for Llechid Celts, and was the only girl on the team.

Having three brothers who were always playing football and the fact her father used to manage Bethesda U15s, it was sort of inevitable Sara would follow suit.

Her first senior team was Colwyn Bay Ladies, who were champions of the North Wales League at the time and packed with many good players.

Later came stints with Llandudno Junction, Amlwch Town and Bangor City.

While with Junction Ladies she won Club Player of the Year and in 2014/15 at Amlwch, she received Manager’s Player of the Year.

It was while with Amlwch that she scored a particularly memorable goal – a 35-yarder v Llanfair United.

Caernarfon Town are another of Sara’s former clubs. She skippered the Canaries in the Welsh Premier League in 2017-18.

Next was a move to Mountain Rangers, where she also wore the captain’s armband.

This season, Sara and Elena Julio were due to take over as player-managers of Rangers, but the team was forced to fold in the summer.

That left the much-sought-after Sara, who is affectionately known as Gonk, without a club and Llandudno were quick to snap her up.

She has known Tudno manager Sarah Colville for many years and will also be familiar with most of the squad at Maesdu Park.

Unfortunately, the season is yet to start due to Covid-19, but Llandudno have been placed in the top division of the new-look North Wales League.

Sara is a very versatile player, capable of filling any position including goalkeeper, and was once described as “a hard as nails ball-winning midfielder”.

Aside from the quality of her play, one of Sara’s biggest strengths is her personality.

She is a very sporting player, always gets on well with the opposition and is a great role model for the youngsters.

She is also very astute at giving interviews for whatever club she plays for, always having something interesting to say.

All hail Sara Williams, who promises to have little Hope kicking a ball as soon as she can stand !
