Midfielder Rebecca Hughes has left Northop Hall and joined a new club in the English pyramid.
The 20-year-old, who has struggled badly with injuries in recent months, now represents Wirral Phoenix, who have registered for the Liverpool County FA Open Age League.
Rebecca explained Phoenix has a fully-qualified physio who can monitor her rehab and hopefully accelerate her path back to full fitness.
A footballer from a very young age, Rebecca’s journey has seen her play for: Shotton Steel boys under 6-10, Flint Town United girls under 10-12, Chester & District girls under 12-16, Northop Hall girls and ladies – and now Wirral Phoenix.
With Northop Hall she was part of the 2017-18 double-winning side which scooped the North Wales Women’s League and NEWFA Cup, beating Denbigh Town 4-1 in the final.
She once revealed, however, that her all-time favourite game to date was for Chester under 16’s.
The team won the Cheshire Cup Final and she scored the winner. Her dad was manager at the time.
Among her other footballing adventures, Rebecca has been a long-time coach for Flint Town United youngsters.
She also once filled a very special and important role for the Essity Stadium club, but Grassroots North Wales is sworn to secrecy as to what it was!
In the past three seasons, Rebecca has been a fantastic help to this website, always more than happy to supply us with match details and reports, win or lose. Indeed, she has been our main source of Hall club news since the departure of former manager Steve Thomas in 2018.
Although moving clubs, Rebecca says she will stay in touch with her friends at Northop Hall and attend some of their games when time allows.
Also moving from Northop Hall to Wirral Phoenix are Tasha Kearney and Hannah Jones.
Hall’s coach Elain Owen stepped down this summer and the Flintshire team is still seeking a new manager.
