In the second of a new series we ask local football managers to pick their All-Time North Wales XI.
Players can be from any era. Managers can choose players they worshiped as a kid, played alongside, played against, managed or managed against.
Today’s selections are from Gareth Thomas.
Nicknamed “Perry”, he has always managed at a good level and one of his finest achievements was leading Conwy Borough to the 2017-18 treble of Welsh Alliance League title, FAW Trophy and Cookson Cup.
Played at Halkyn, great shot stopper, best penalty taker I’ve seen and that good with feet could also play left back.
A good defender who could get about the pitch. Played at Halkyn, great delivery of balls from out wide.
Great reader of game. Grew up watching him play at Holywell and Flint, then played with him for Halkyn and Rhydymwyn
Nicknamed Cheifie. A superb strong player, good in the tackle and air reliable – 8/10 each week
Joined Halkyn from Mostyn. Great player, always had time on ball, passed for fun.
Superb player and top lad, good with ball and could get goals from midfield
Big strong centre-mid. Played with him at Rhydymwyn. He also played at Bala.
Captain of the Halkyn side through their successful period. Strong as they came. Solid
Horrible, niggly player. Upset everyone, could start a row on his own but great left foot and goal scorer
Brother of Dave. Played at Rhydymwyn with him, good with both feet, in the air and could bring others into the game
Another horrible centre forward who would cause havoc. Could score any type of goal from any distance.
