Running news: New date for Nick Beer 10k race

Jon Evans tackles the Pont-y-Bala Parkrun

The Nick Beer 10K race, postponed on February 9 due to Storm Ciara, has now been re-arranged for Saturday, March 7, with a 12-noon start from near the Imperial Hotel on Llandudno promenade.

The course will then take runners around the Great Orme, and back via West Shore. A fun run will also be staged near race HQ at Venue Cymru, starting at 11am. Entries for that event will be taken on the day.

The organising team thank the authorities for their assistance and co-operation with finding a new date, and say they are also grateful to their sponsors, who will continue to support the race, and to all who will be volunteering on the day.

PARKRUN ROUND-UP

Storm Dennis decimated local runs

Storm Dennis decimated a host of parkruns and races nationwide last Saturday with many events cancelled early due to the threat of pending high winds and heavy rain.

Conwy, Penrhyn and the Nova Parkrun at Prestatyn were just some of the local events called-off, together with the Conwy Junior Parkrun on Sunday morning, and the popular Village Bakery Half-Marathon race at Wrexham, which was another victim to this second major storm in consecutive weekends.

Bala

Jon Evans

North Wales Road Runner Jon Evans was fortunate to find a working parkrun at Pont y Bala last Saturday morning, where despite very rough conditions, he finished in 7th place overall and was 2nd MV50 cat in 23.58.
