Since Sam Williams netted 12 goals for Mountain Rangers at the weekend, there has been lots of speculation as to whether a North Wales record had been broken.
Grassroots North Wales can reveal one of the greatest goal-getters in North Wales football history has matched Sam Williams’ feat.
Bro Cernyw FC legend Euryn Williams once scored 12 times in a 15-1 defeat of Blaenau Ffestiniog.
“It was around 1993,” said Euryn, who kept a record of every goal he registered in his career.
Over 16 seasons with Cernyw, the club he helped form in 1990, Williams bagged an amazing 683 goals. One of the game’s true gentlemen, he hung up his boots in 2006.
His young daughter Fflur, 18, is a well-known player on the women’s football scene and a prolific net-finder like her dad.
Fflur has played in the Welsh Premier for Llandudno and Cardiff City in the English pyramid. She once scored 60 goals in a season for Llandudno at under-16 level.
Sam Williams’ quadruple hat-trick for Rangers in their 16-0 drubbing of Cefni FC at the weekend had many a North Wales football fan racking their brains trying to remember anyone scoring more in a single game.
Rumours are doing the circuit, but concrete information is still awaited. No doubt something substantial will emerge soon!
