Asa grabs a treble in second comeback game for Holyhead Hotspur

Asa Thomas (yellow shirt) hit a treble for Holyhead Hotspur Reserves on Wednesday

Asa Thomas did not take long to hit the goals trail at new club Holyhead Hotspur.

Thomas, who rejoined Hotspur last week, bagged a hat-trick for the reserve side in a 3-0 Anglesey League triumph against Pentraeth Reserves on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was at Holyhead Town before the Harbourmen withdrew their first team from the Welsh Alliance last week.

After landing at Hotspur for a third time in his career, Thomas came on as a substitute in the first team’s 1-0 victory at Glan Conwy last Saturday.

That result pushed Darren Garmey’s side five points clear at the Welsh Alliance Division One summit.

Thomas’ treble for the reserves on Wednesday lifted his season’s total up to 22 goals.

His first goal was an exquisite chip over the keeper, the second a lovely finish into the bottom corner and the third a typical poacher’s tap-in after Chris Corrie had hit the bar.

Hotspur Reserves manager Tom Scott said after the game: “A good professional 3-0 win last night against Pentraeth Reserves.

“Was great to see things we’ve worked on during training all season pay off. The movement on and off the ball was fantastic. To be able to get a comfortable result and play six 16-year-olds, three aged 17 and two 18 shows how far the lads have come.

“We would be nothing without the older lads too who provide the experience in there. It’s a squad game and I wouldn’t swap my lads for anyone. Also great to see Asa back in a Hotspur shirt again getting some minutes in before Saturday.

Man of the match was 16-year-old Mitch Jones, who put in a relentless, all-round performance.
