Which famous male footballers do women playing in North Wales teams resemble most in their style of play?
Please note, these fun comparisons relate to the way the females play the game and are nothing to do with how they look!
It’s all for fun and while the perceived similarities may be a little extreme, I do genuinely see the girls mentioned as playing similar roles for their clubs as the male stars do for theirs.
Tricky, speedy, skilful and loads of goals. That’s Catrin. Raheem can be useful on his day too.
Few players in North Wales are as impressive as Boo in winning the ball, breaking forward and hitting a cracking shot. Lampard used to do the same.
Ffion is the ultimate goal-getting midfielder. Strong, inspirational, great engine. Gerrard couldn’t win a league title in England so he’s gone to Scotland to try his luck. Seriously, a fantastic player, The complete midfielder for Liverpool.
Anna never stops trying from first whistle to last. Crunching tackles, endless running and the odd goal. She would never dream of calling Tottenham’s full-backs Dumb and Dumber on live TV though.
Tall strikers, plenty of skill and know where the goal is.
Mary is one of the best central defenders in the North Wales League. Maguire still has a bit to prove in a Man U shirt.
Ronaldo has scored goals galore in his career, many from free kicks. But could he do it on a rainy afternoon in Corwen like Katie has?
Mary gets a few goals herself, but her approach play creates so many others for Llanfair. Few better sights than when she has the ball at her feet. Firmino is very watchable in the same way.
Rosie runs hard, gets the ball and usually scores. Rashford runs hard, gets the ball and misses often! He’s getting back to his best now it seems.
Electric centre-forward Ffion will always get you goals. Aguero is the best striker to grace the Premier League in my opinion.
Paige is so consistent and loves to get forward. Alves did exactly the same at the Camp Nou as Paige does at Lon Bach.
Both can/could change a game with a moment of genius, stunning shooting, a precision pass or a deadly free kick. Katie has never karate-kicked a fan though. Unless she has and not told me.
Goal-scoring midfielders, both set-piece specialists, each the first name on the team sheet. Beckham never won an Anglesey cap though.
Not sure which one is/was the fastest roaring down the wing. Both were born under the sign of Aquarius though.
This pair both possess beautiful skills and can make the ball stick to their foot like glue. Catrin once scored 38 goals in a season, not sure if Didier ever managed that.
Virgil is the best defender in the Premier League, I bet many would rate Llinos the best in her division too. Both amazingly composed on the ball.
Both players strong, attacking midfielders. Sioned would never butt an opponent in the chest though, and she’s a better rugby player than ZZ.
When it comes to spectacular goals, these two would take some separating. Ash doesn’t do tap-ins, neither did Roberto. I’ll have to check with Ash if she can bend balls like bananas with the outside of her golden left boot.
I wish Harry could see the free kick Mia scored for Penrhyn Bay last week. I doubt he’s ever struck a dead-ball much better. Industrious players both, futures look bright for each.
Elegance is the similarity here. Rachel is a joy to watch on the ball, as Aaron can be at times. Both can make a huge difference to a team when they are in the starting line-up.
Kieffer may have scored on his Wales debut, but he cannot match Becky for consistency this season. Both are great leapers and flickers, an asset to any attack.
Wing wizards the pair, both love running with the ball. Maybe wouldn’t be room for them both in the same side. Awkward decision for Rich Evans the Llanfair boss. Well, not really I suppose seeing as Dan is a bloke.
Abby is a ball-playing magician who makes the game look easy. Pirlo’s not bad either.
Lauren’s a great shot stopper, really impressed with her each time I’ve seen her. Not always impressed with Wayne in the current campaign, but it’s true that keeper mistakes are made more of than any other. What a career he’s had.
Target players, powerful, hard to dispossess. Sam just edges it as he made it 3-1 v Belgium.
Plenty of industry and hard work from this pair, and no shortage of skill too. Would want both on my side in a battle. Has Joe Allen been voted ‘Funniest Player’ as many times as Becca though? Doubtful.
With her speedy thrusts and knack for goals, Jordanne is the Mo Salah of Llandudno, apart from the fact she doesn’t dive.
Sofie’s teeth are nicer to look at than the Suarez gnashers. Both are fiery front players who work so hard to win the ball back.
Ramos just can’t stay out of trouble, his disciplinary record is awful. Charley dishes out cards instead of receiving them and has never been sent off to my knowledge. Charley wins.
The industry, probing, short-passing game, these two are peas from the same pod.
Tall elegant midfielders who can take a mean free kick. Charley is going places, but Glenn is quite an unpopular TV pundit these days. Hoddle wouldn’t score as many hits for his Focus interview either, not that I’d ask him.
Mane’s a superb attacking winger, real class for Liverpool, he makes a huge difference. Look forward to seeing Ceri back from injury, having started the season so well for new club Amlwch.
Emily was at her electric best when NFA beat Mountain Rangers recently. Aubameyang has enjoyed many magic moments in an Arsenal shirt. Both match-winners these two.
Apart from the fact Henderson won the Champions League and has been on a Nivea AD, Gwenno beats him in every other department, especially when it comes to smiling.
Quality attacking right-back pair, both vital to their teams. Trent is yet to win the Grassroots North Wales Women’s Player of the Year award though. I can confidently predict he never will.
The hold-up twins. Both can make the ball stick smartly up front. I’d rather have a cup of tea and a chat with Amy any day.
Sara is a leader, an inspiration, also a good sport and a great ambassador for the game. Vidic filled a similar role in his Man U days. Both hard as nails, but kind as a bunny underneath.
Lexi scores a lot of goals inside the box, as did Inzaghi in his prime. Both out and out strikers, but Lexi can find the net from distance too, something I rarely remember Filippo doing.
Tevez was the hardest working striker in the Premier League at his peak. Never stopped motoring and scored so many key goals. Ceri possesses the same qualities, industrious, great on the ball and has an eye for goal.
Most people you ask about Bethan says she is the best keeper in North Wales Division One. Many people will say David is the best goalie in the Premier League (before this season at least). All you need to know. Both are simply the best.
