Double knockout for the sensational Alan Blacks!

Alan Blacks scored a double KO with a difference on Saturday!

On Saturday afternoon he scored twice in his team’s 4-2 win in the FAW Trophy, then in the evening stepped into the boxing ring and won by a third round knockout!

Just another chapter in the amazing story of Caernarfon sportsman Alan Blacks!

The all-action all-rounder, real name Alan Mark Owen, first helped Llanrug United reach the next round of the Trophy with a double strike in a 4-2 victory at Y Felinheli.

Then it was a trip to Llandudno where he was to achieve a knockout of a different kind.

Taking on Dan Pritchard (Gorilla MA) in the Welsh Combat League at Venue Cymru, Alan, 27, who fights out of the Porthmadog-based MPMA gym, recorded a stunning third round TKO victory in a conventional boxing bout.

Last week saw Blacks announce he would have three more fights before hanging up his gloves.

Pritchard was his first opponent, in a fight arranged at late notice, to be followed by a much-awaited tussle with fellow Cofi and former Welsh champion Alan Mark Roberts (aka Slim) for the Market Mayhem Heavyweight title at the Market Hall, Palace Street, Caernarfon, on September 28.

Blacks will then say farewell to the ring when he meets good friend Robert Ben Humphreys, one of the three highly-respected Humphreys fighting brothers from Porthmadog, at the Rise of the Welsh Warriors show in Criccieth on October 19.

In this one, Alan’s WUMA Welsh Heavyweight title will be on the line. Blacks’ last two fights will be kickboxing contests.

The popular boxer and kickboxer was having just the fourth fight of his career on Saturday in Llandudno and entered the ring with a perfect 3-0 record.

Both boxers came out of the corners nice and loose, but it was Blacks who controlled the first round, landing some lovely left jabs and right hands, bloodying his opponent’s nose in the process.

Pritchard was very game and was far from lacking in ability himself, yet it was the Caernarfon man who dictated the action again in the second round with the cleaner work.

Entering the last, Pritchard needed a knockout to win, and to be fair the Gorilla MA boxer went for it, launching some fierce right hands, but Blacks’ reflexes were so sharp nothing landed cleanly.

It was a more even round until the finish arrived in the closing 30 seconds.

Pritchard tried to corner his opponent, but Alan responded with a clinical left-right combination, which sent the Gorilla MA boxer tumbling forward to the canvas.

Although Pritchard got up, he was looking very unsteady and in no position to continue as the referee called it off at 1:58 of the final round.

Blacks produced a magnificent display, boxing with the sharpness, technique and skill of a fighter with many more than four bouts under their belt.

So now it is on to September 28 and the Market Mayhem Heavyweight crown on the line.

One down two to go!
