Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League: Lewis hits four as ‘Fechan bang in seven, while Whitehouse treble buoys Rhuddlan

Rhuddlan Town made a flying start to the campaign

Rhuddlan Town battled back from 3-1 down at half time to defeat Meliden 6-3 in the Salisbury and Co (St Asaph) Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division.

Facing a team which dropped out of the Welsh Alliance last season, Wayne Hughes’ home side played well in the first half, but found themselves trailing by two goals at the break.

Chris Marsden (2) and Joe Newell were the Meliden marksmen, Jay Whitehouse responding for Town.

In the second period the hosts took control, Whitehouse completing his hat-trick, Matty Rees netting twice and Joshua Parry adding a single.

Ryan Lewis was a four-goal star in Llanfairfechan Town’s 7-2 away hammering of Y Glannau.

Iwan Sion Jones, Curtis Murray and Robin Roberts added one apiece, Darren Morris and Joey Fontana (pen) with the home consolations.

Llansannan started off nicely with a 3-1 triumph at newly-promoted Llanelwy Athletic.

Leon Gierke blasted the visitors in front from a 25 yard free kick, but Llanelwy soon levelled when Luke Stanley finished well after a shot rebounded off stand-in keeper Adam Gage, who had replaced the injured Luke Jones in the early stages.

Elis Vaughan made it 2-1 with a fine run and finish, then in first half added time, Jac Glover netted with an astonishing effort from halfway.

Abergele defeated last season’s runners-up Llandudno Athletic 3-1, James Lloyd, Jack Lloyd and an own goal making up the home tally, Jordan Dixon responding for the visitors.

Robin Hughes, Sion Jones and John Gardner were Bro Cernyw’s scorers in an impressive 3-0 outcome at Rhos United.

In the only Division One match played, Llanfairfechan Town Reserves beat Henllan 3-1.

Anthony Gustafson (2) and Elliot Croston were the home hitmen, Alex Thomas on the mark for the visitors just before half time.
