When Llandudno Albion beat Penrhyndeudraeth last Saturday, the result had more special significance for striker Dave Maddock than any other player on the winning side.
Maddock’s first goal in the 4-1 victory at Maesdu Park was his 67th for the club – and that made him Albion’s all-time highest scorer, passing Mark Montgomery’s long-standing record.
An Albion player since the club formed in 2014, Maddock was a central defender for the first three seasons before a switch up front in 2017/18 delivered amazing results – 30 goals in all competitions in the Llandudno side’s debut campaign in Welsh Alliance Division One.
Between November and December of that season, Maddock bagged a total of 13 goals, including all three of his career hat-tricks.
Last term he added another 17 goals to his collection and ended it on 66 – putting him equal with Montgomery.
Now he is an outright record holder, and for good measure he scored again in Wednesday night’s 5-0 win at Llanrwst to make it 69 goals in all.
