Danny Warren bagged a hat-trick for a Mold side which advanced to the first round of the NEWFA Challenge Cup with a hard-fought win over Rhostyllen on spot-kicks.

Warren, who has notched more than 50 goals for the club over the past two seasons, struck twice in the first half to put the Alex two-up at Alyn Park, but the visitors hit back to be level by half time.

It finished 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes, Warren completing his treble, and following extra time, it was four-apiece, Mike Woodward also netting for the hosts.

Rhostyllen’s scorers were Andrew Bithell, Drew Wickens (2) and Tom Douglas.

Penalties were needed to decide the outcome and Mold prevailed 4-2.
