Bangor 1876 made it three wins in a row as they followed up Tuesday’s 2-1 victory at JD Cymru North side Gresford Athletic – Dylan Summers-Jones with both goals – by beating Welsh Alliance outfit Greenfield on the new 3G facility at Bangor University’s Treborth site.

Prior to kick off, a minute’s silence was impeccably observed by the 300-strong crowd in memory of the much-loved Gwyn Pierce Owen, who sadly passed away earlier this week at the age of 85.

Both sides had a goal disallowed in the first half, while 1876 provided several other close calls, Summers-Jones just off target on three occasions.

The deadlock was finally broken after 54 minutes when Jamie Petrie latched onto a through ball, beat oncoming keeper Lewis Hall and was forced wide, but slotted into an empty net from the narrowest of angles.

Greenfield posed a threat going forward, causing several anxious moments in the home defence.

Les Davies almost doubled the lead in the 71st minute as he raced clear of the Greenfield defence but, forced wide, the striker saw a goalbound effort blocked.

The second goal duly arrived a minute later as Benn Lundstram connected well to send a right-footed volley into the far corner of the net.

Greenfield pulled a goal back when a run down the right hand side saw a deft finish turned in by Sam Jones to reduce the arrears to 2-1.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser but the Gwynedd League hosts survived before sealing the win with a last-minute penalty after Summers-Jones was upended as he raced through on goal.

With virtually the last kick of the game, a young substitute trialist scored from the spot..

CPD Bangor 1876: Leon Jones (GK), Trialist, Shaun Lock, Cian Williams, Michael Johnston (C), Luke Steele, Jamie Petrie, Cameron Barry, Les Davies, Dion Jones, Dylan Summers-Jones. Subs: Benn Lundstram, Dylan Williams, three Trialists.

Greenfield: Lewis Hall, Simon Fawcett, Darren Johns, Liam Simon, Sion McHugh (C), Brett Johns, Danny Henley, Keiron Roberts, Sam Jones, Danny Calvert, Conor Hughes. Subs: Lewis Harrison, Scott Beck.
