Bethesda Rugby Club to host joint fund raiser for local football team and national charity

A charity football match this weekend will raise funds for two good causes.

Proceeds from Sunday’s game at Bethesda Rugby Club will be split between Ogwen Tigers Football Club and Alzheimer`s UK.

It will be the third football fund raiser organised by Paul Feaver and his family. Paul’s father Eddie passed away in October 2017 and the first two games were arranged in support of Alzheimer`s Research UK.  

This year’s match will be a joint fundraising event, again supporting Alzheimer`s UK but also Ogwen Tigers seniors team, who have recently changed their name from Mynydd Tigers and have a new home ground at Bethesda Rugby Club. 

Ogwen Tigers have a new management team comprising: Michael Williams – manager, Rhys Williams – assistant-manager and Paul Feaver, who holds a dual role of assistant manager/secretary.

The trio are working together for the first time, but are very familiar with each other., Mike being Paul’s nephew and Rhys his brother-in-law and Mike’s father. All three have been involved in organising the previous events. 

Manager Mike Williams has played for the team since the club first formed as Mynydd Tigers in 2017 and was the captain of the team that won the Anglesey League in the 2017/18 season, the first team based off the island to win the trophy.

This Sunday’s charity game at Dol Dafydd will be accompanied by sideshows, with a variety of stalls and activities available in and around the clubhouse including slime making, face painting, tombola, raffle, ice cream van, pizza van, vegan food van, drinks, sweets and of course the charity match itself, for which so far 40 players have committed to play.

Paul said: “This event is supporting a great cause as well as supporting Bethesda`s newest team as we prepare for the Gwynedd League.

“I know my father, who used to manage a local youth team himself, would have been thrilled with his son, son-in-law and grandson working together to manage a local team and would have been right there by our sides.

“We aim to help make a difference in the community with the team, but also in the fight against a very cruel illness.”
