The North Wales athletics team won a clutch of bronze medals with four male runners finishing within the top-20 to secure a prestigious third spot at the Inter-Counties event at Meerbrook, Staffordshire, last Saturday.
The leading team counters were Philip Pumford, Jonathan Kettle, Jez Brown and Elliot Cox. The team ended level on 43 points with Staffordshire, but narrowly lost out on countback with the fourth Staffs runner just finishing ahead of NW.
The ladies team just missed out on medals, finishing only 3 points adrift of third-placed Cheshire with 31. The men’s team award was won by Shropshire and the ladies by Staffs.
Manager Paul Brooks was delighted with the performances over a very challenging course, saying: “It was great running from all our ten athletes, and especially the men who finished second. A quick mention too for Jez Brown, 1st M45 vet, which won him one of those expensive bobble hats.”
