What a game of women’s football at Y Morfa!

This was an end-to-end contest that genuinely could have gone either way, with both Kinmel Bay and NFA giving everything from first whistle to the last.

Both teams started strongly, creating chances at either end, while both goalkeepers produced some incredible saves to keep their sides in the game.

Kinmel Bay keeper Steph Farley tussles for the ball

The breakthrough came for the Bay after a long delivery was played down the wing to Georgia Williams, who beat her marker before showing great composure to pull the ball back into the path of Tasha Standing, who took aim from outside the box and unleashed an incredible strike that flew beyond the keeper and into the top right corner.

Bay battled hard to hold onto their advantage, but in the 37th minute Amy Webster managed to get beyond the Kinmel defence before calmly slotting the ball past stand-in goalkeeper Steph Farley to bring NFA level.

The second half continued in exactly the same fashion, with both teams battling for every ball and looking for the goal that could decide the game.

Chances came at both ends and there was very little between the two sides.

Deep into the second half, Rachael Thomas threaded a lovely ball through to NFA new signing Baileigh Aaron, who produced a composed finish to find the back of the net in the 70th minute and put the visitors 2–1 ahead.

Although it was serious stuff at Y Morfa, Kinmel Bay’s Amy Chesters still found time to see the lighter side of things

Kinmel Bay continued to battle right until the final whistle, but NFA held on to take the three points.

This was a fantastic display of women’s football from both teams. Competitive, hard-fought and played in great spirit, it was a game that could easily have gone either way.
