Trearddur Bay bounced back from last week’s heartbreaking Welsh Cup exit at Denbigh with an away victory over CPD Nefyn in the Lock Stock Ardal North League Cup.

The Beach Boys started brightly and had an early chance to take the lead after five minutes, when Ashley Ainsworth cut in from the left hand side, but he blazed his effort high and wide.

Bay broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. A corner was cleared by Nefyn but the resulting cross was sent back into the box, where Callum Parry saw his effort saved by Alex Ward-Jones in the Nefyn goal. The rebound fell kindly to Noa Hughes, who made no mistake from close range.

Bay doubled their advantage on 36 minutes, with Hughes grabbing his second of the afternoon. Another corner, this time from Joe Todd on the left found its way through to the defender, who bundled the ball over the line to make it 2-0.

It was nearly 3-0 just before half-time when Todd cut inside onto his right foot and curled an effort that cannoned back off the crossbar.

The second half was a much more even affair, with both sides defending strongly and chances at a premium. Both teams were largely restricted to efforts from distance as Bay continued to protect their advantage with Paul Pritchard making some important saves.

The visitors finally added a third in the 83rd minute. Substitute James Leatherbarrow did well down the left before finding Callum Parry, who showed good composure to evade the challenge from the defender and finish into the bottom corner for his 17th goal of the season.

To their credit, Nefyn never gave up and were rewarded with a consolation goal in the 90th minute through substitute Iwan Moore.
