Flint Town United waste no time in appointing new manager

Danny Holmes is the new manager of Novira Cymru Premier club Flint Town United.
Holmes, 37, who recently ended a three-year spell in charge of Northern Premier League Division One West club Vauxhall Motors, takes over at the Essity Stadium from Lee Fowler, who departed the Silkmen by mutual consent this week.
The new Flint boss has a number of past connections with North Wales football, having played for Bangor City, Connah’s Quay Nomads and Colwyn Bay.
Birkenhead-born Holmes began his career with Tranmere Rovers at the age of seven.
Having captained the youth and reserve teams, he signed his first professional contract in July 2007.
Defender Holmes spent the latter half of the 2007-08 eason on loan at Conference North club Southport, making 15 appearances.
At the end of 2008–09, having made one league appearance during a 1–0 defeat to Yeovil Town, Holmes was released by Tranmere.
Holmes spent time on trial with Chester City before signing for The New Saints, joining his brother Tommy at the club. At the end of his first season with Saints, Danny earned a league champions medal and was named in the Welsh Premier team of the season.
He left TNS at the end of 2010–11 and in June 2011, re-signed for Tranmere Rovers on a one-year contract. In August 2011, he joined Fleetwood Town on a one-month loan to attempt to gain some first-team experience.
After breaking into the Tranmere team in early 2012 and becoming a regular, and also winning the young player of the year award, Rovers took up a further one year option on him. He eventually made 133 appearances for the club.
In June 2015, following Tranmere’s relegation into the National League, Holmes joined League Two club Newport County. He made his debut for Newport on 8 August 2015 versus Cambridge United.
Holmes joined National League North club AFC Fylde in the summer of 2016. On 10 November 2016, he signed for National League club York City on a contract until the end of 2016–17. In May 2017, Holmes started as York beat Macclesfield Town 3–2 at Wembley Stadium in the 2017 FA Trophy Final. He turned down a new contract with The Minstermen in June 2017.[17]
On 10 July 2017, Holmes signed for Welsh Premier League club Bangor City, where he made a great impression.
Following Bangor’s demotion from the Welsh Premier, Holmes joined Connah’s Quay Nomads.
Holmes made his Nomads debut in the 2018 Europa League defeat against Shakhtyor Soligorsk and would go on to be a mainstay in the Quay’s starting 11 over the following five years, making a total of 141 competitive starts and four substitute appearances.
Holmes was a key part of the team that made it to the Irn Bru Cup Final, defeated Kilmarnock in Europe and also won back-to-back JD Cymru Premier and Nathaniel MG Cup titles.
He departed Nomads in 2023 and had a short spell at promoted Colwyn Bay as player-coach before taking on the Vauxhall Motors job in October 2023.
