Lee Fowler departs as Flint Town United manager

Flint Town United and their manager Lee Fowler have parted company today by mutual agreement.

The Silkmen have endured a difficult start to the 2026-27, currently lying one off the bottom of the Cymru Premier and without a win in 10 matches.

Cardiff born Fowler is a former Welsh Under 21 international, gaining 12 caps for his country. During his playing career, he was a midfielder, and represented an array of clubs including Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Fleetwood Town, Doncaster Rovers, Wrexham and Forest Green Rovers.

After retiring from playing, Chester-based Fowler moved into the coaching and management side of the game, and gained his UEFA A licence.

He started out as assistant-manager at Nuneaton Borough, and has subsequently managed Ilkeston Town, where he led them to the Midlands Premier Division title and Radcliffe in the NPL Premier league.

He left Radcliffe in October 2021, and turned down several offers before taking the opportunity to manage in the Cymru Premier by accepting the role of Flint Town United manager in June 2022.

After the Silkmen were relegated at the end of 2022-23, Fowler led the club back to the top-flight the following season after they were promoted as Cymru North runners-up.

In 2024-25 he kept them in the Cymru Premier, finishing 10th, and last term Fowler ensured they again maintained top-flight status and led the club to their first Welsh Cup final since 1954.

In March, Flint announced a change in management, with Steve Evans promoted from assistant to first team manager and Fowler made head of football. However, this was a short-lived switch and the original arrangement was soon restored.

Flint Town United said in a statement:

“It is with regret that we announce Lee Fowler has left the post of Flint Town United first team manager today. At a Board meeting this morning it was decided to part company with Lee, with the team’s results and performances over the opening ten games of the season having fallen far short of  expectations. We wish Lee every success in the future and thank him for his tremendous contribution to the club, both on and off the pitch over the last four years, especially in masterminding our run to the Welsh Cup final last season.

In paying tribute to Lee, chairman Darryl Williams commented “The decision to change manager was made all the more difficult by the fact that Lee is such a lovely human being. His ability to get to know everyone at the club was exceptional, and he engenders a great deal of warmth and respect. This is a very sad day for me personally, and the club as a whole”.

“With an important game coming up against Ammanford on Saturday, the hunt is now on to appoint a successor to Lee as quickly and efficiently as possible, and the club will be working tirelessly to this end.”
