Prestatyn Sports – champions again!

Pop the champagne for Prestatyn Sports – 2025-26 North Wales Coast League East Division One champions!
This club initially collected trophies like butterflies after forming in 2013-14, rising to Tier 3 in the pyramid.
They’ve had a little break from the winners’ podium, but returned to compete at Tier 5 last season – now they are back in the silverware!
Sports clinched the Division One title on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win at home to nearest challenges Penrhyn Bay.
The club has the chance of completing a double when they face Rhuddlan Town in the REM Jones Cup Final on April 24 at Bastion Gardens, Prestatyn.
While the trophies had dried up a little in recent seasons and the club took an enforced break in 2023-24 due to lack of players, since their return, Sports have made major progress in developing their impressive ground The Meadows, which they moved to in 2020, securing a 25-year lease.
This week’s title success delivered the eighth trophy in the club’s 13-year history, which was disrupted by Covid in 2020 and that temporary disbansion in 2023.

TITLE DECIDER – APRIL 15, 2026
Prestatyn Sports 3 Penrhyn Bay 1

Having already lost twice to Penrhyn Bay this season, there was no hiding from the challenge awaiting Sports on Wednesday night.
This was the moment to respond — and they rose to it.
The game started nervously, with both sides fully aware of what was at stake, but backed by a superb home crowd, Sports began to grow into the game.
On 28 minutes, the breakthrough came. Mike Jones’ header beat the keeper Elliott Hughes-Whittaker, who then brought him down, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot.
Matty Griffiths stepped up and showed real composure, smashing home to make it 1–0.
Just 10 minutes later, Sports struck again. Dylan Taylor lit up the game with a brilliant solo run, beating two players before finding Alfie Griffiths. He did the rest — showing great feet and composure to squeeze the ball through the keeper’s legs and double the lead.
Chances came and went for both sides before the break, with the post and some excellent goalkeeping keeping the score at 2–0 heading into halftime.
The message was clear at the interval — the job wasn’t finished.
On 64 minutes, Sports took a huge step towards promotion. A pinpoint corner from Alfie Griffiths found Lewis Eyre-Williams at the back post, who powered home from close range to make it 3–0 and send the Meadows into full voice.
Penrhyn Bay pulled one back on 77 minutes through Sol Dickens, setting up a tense finish, but this time Sports refused to be denied, some late defending highly impressive.
At the final whistle, it was relief, pride, and celebration all in one. Sports not only secured promotion, but did it the hard way — putting right earlier defeats and finishing the season on an incredible 15-game unbeaten run.
