Footballer charged with assault will appear in court next month

A man will appear in court next month after being charged with assault at a football match in January.

Thomas Taylor, 36, of Llanddona, Ynys Môn, is alleged to have assaulted an opponent during the Porthmadog versus Trearddur Bay Ardal North West match at Y Traeth on January 17.

After the game, footage was seen by millions on social media of the alleged incident where it appeared Taylor, playing for Trearddur Bay, swung an elbow at Porthmadog player Danny Brookwell off–the-ball as a penalty was about to be taken.

Brookwell suffered concussion in the incident and Taylor was arrested the following day.

Taylor was later released by Trearddur Bay and banned from all football activity by the Football Association of Wales pending investigations.

North Wales Police have just released the following statement: “Following submission of a case file to the Crown Prosecution Service, officers received authorisation to charge a man in relation to an incident that occurred during a football match between Porthmadog FC and Trearddur Bay on Saturday 17th January.

“36 year old Thomas Taylor of Llanddona was yesterday charged with Assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and will appear before Court in Caernarfon on Monday 11th May.”
