Five North Wales Road Runners were among a very large field of some 7,315 entrants at the Chester 10k race on March 8 – and they all performed well with some noteworthy finishing times.
Veteran Jon Evans was in top form, producing a strong finish in a good chip time of 47 minutes and 44 seconds, and he led the team home with Molly Evans next in 49.32.
Good to see Kelly Alford back in action again, and she recorded 49.38; with master vet Rob Fryer continuing his purple patch in 54.59; whilst Vicky Taylor also finished well in 77.12. There were plaudits too for their friend Mandy Owen who clocked 66.17.
The tough Dolgarrog Pipe Dream Fell Race attracted some 165 finishers to their annual challenge on March 7, which was part of the WFRA short championships, and it was won by Kieran Wynne-Cattanach (Eryri Harriers) following a great effort over this 6.8k course in just 33 minutes and 52 seconds.
He was followed by Gavin Roberts (Calder Vale RR) in 34.10, and Rhys Goodrick (Vegan Runners) in 35.02. And the first female finisher, Bronwen Jenkinson (29th overall) secured a unique double victory for Eryri Harriers, with another fine performance in 41.06, whilst Suzie Richards claimed runner-up in 42.57 (34th overall), with Jessica Evans (36th overall) posting 43.24.
North Wales Road Runner master veteran Kevin Slattery finished 87th overall, and 4th VM70 in 51.18, with colleague Adam Lemalle 92nd in 51.58.
A couple of other local athletes of note included: Michael Corrales (Dark Peak) in 12th place in 38.35, and Gwyn Williams (Colwyn Bay AAC) 83rd in 50.47.

It was bright and sunny following a heavy early morning frost at the Llandrillo yn Rhos Parkrun on March 7, which also celebrated International Women’s Day.
Tackling an almost sand-free 5k promenade course, Nicolas Seguin was first finisher from 386 entrants, with a new PB in 17.41, and his talented JW15-17 daughter Tamsin Seguin (Menai T&F) made it a family double as first female (16th overall), with an excellent run in 19.45.
Harry Driscoll (Meirionnydd RC) was the second male finisher in 17.55, with visitor John Myers (Helsby RC) third on his debut in 17.58.
For the ladies, with Tamsin claiming the top spot, Amelia Anderson (Tri-Stars) enjoyed a great result in second place (29th overall) with a new course PB in 21.04, and Emma Fraser (Helsby RC) was third in 21.42.
North Wales Road Runners entered 12 members and claimed two age cat victories with Stuart Culverhouse leading the team in 12th place and 3rd VM50 in 19.41. Next was Paddy Walsh 26th with a new PB in 20.53, and Cheryl Frost 1st VW60 with a great new PB 22.26 in 45th overall. Veteran Steve Roberts was only ten-seconds and one place adrift of Cheryl, and 3rd VM60.
Steve Mason continued his recent rehabilitation to also record a new course PB in 24.04 in 75th place, and master vet Rob Fryer won his VM70 age cat in 104th place in 26.14.
Gwen Charlton placed 123rd in 26.48, and Tony Price Jones made his belated Rhos parkrun debut, an impressive 125th in 26.49, whilst master vet Don Hale had heavy legs this week in 150th placeand 3rd VM70 in 27.32.
Helen Hannam settled for 197th place in 29.10, and Elizabeth Driscoll was 229th after running the course with her dog Winston again in a new PB of 30.23, with veteran John O’Shea 282nd in 33.07.
Other local runners included: Josh Mottram (Colwyn Bay AAC) 17th and new PB 19.54; Gareth Southgate (Cybi Striders) 36th with a new course PB 21.49; and Iain Burgess ran with his JM11-14 son Lucas, who was 60th, in a course PB 23.16, with Iain one place and once second behind, and Dave Munday was 66th in 23.26 (course PB).
Stuart Culverhouse’s JW15-17 daughter Sophia Culverhouse had a good run in 105th place in 26.15, together with his wife Lucy,
276th in 32.51
Martin Green (Meirionnydd RC) was first to finish the Conwy Parkrun in 19.08, but once again was made to work hard, with Emma Knowles in close pursuit in second place overall in 19.38, and young JM15-17 athlete Daniel Swinden third on course debut in 19.53.
Georgia Baynes (Valley Striders) was second female in 21.21, with Anna Drinkwater (Eryri Harriers) third in 22.07.
North Wales Road Runners’ Carla Green continued with her recovery plans, finishing 19th overall and 11st VW50 in 22.50, whilst club colleague Karl Morris celebrated his birthday this week by finishing 35th in 25.08.
Other local athletes included: Rhys Pugh 14th in 22.09, Peter Johnson 48th in 26.27, and Amanda Durber 62nd in 27.51.
There were 134 finishers at Conwy.
Rhodri Williams (Cybi Striders) was first to complete Penrhyn Castle Parkrun in a a very fast t18 minutes and one second, followed by Jonathan Tyler (Betsi Runaways) in 18.54.
Jessica Bibby was top female (20th overall) in 22.30, with Laura McKenzie (Betsi Runaways) second in 22.50, and visitor Alexandra Galloway was third on her course debut in 24.28. There were 188 finishers in total.
There was a good turn-out of 272 finishers at the Nova Parkrun, including39 entrants from the host club Prestatyn RC.
And the first two male finishers, plus the third female, all represented that same club. Alex Ryder was first overall in 18.14, with Andrew Bromley next in 19.07 and Evan Lewis third with a new PB 19.27.
Jess Jacques was number one female with a new PB in 21.44, Leah Hughes came second in 21.49, with Megan Lewis third in 23.25.
