GENERO ADRAN NORTH: Quay make it seven wins in a row but Felinheli push them hard

Although leaders Connah’s Quay made it seven straight wins this season – and 24 Adran North victories in a row dating back to March 2024 – they were given a tough battle on Sunday by a Felinheli side who are consistently one of their most testing opponents at Tier 2 level.

Felin took to the pitch at Treborth knowing they were up against the unbeaten champions, but the game plan was to frustrate the Deesiders as much as possible and play in a defensive shape for much of the game. And the home side came out with quite a decent result.

Felinheli did not get off to the best of starts as a complete lapse of concentration saw Connah’s Quay score with one of the first touches of the game.

The ball found Ella Jones’ feet and she rocketed home to give the visitors the lead with her 50th Adran North goal, making her the second-highest scorer in the league’s brief history.

Felin didn’t give up and worked hard to frustrate the opposition for the rest of the first half. Unfortunate injuries to young Rubie Davies and Elsi Williams – both who have demonstrated fantastic quality this season – forced Felin to make two subs early in the game.

Katie Midwinter also taking a bad knock to the ankle meant the hosts had to function with 10 players whilst Katie received treatment. Connah’s Quay found the back of the net again through Phoebe Ellis, just before half time.

A good battle continued between the two teams into the second half, some strong challenges from both sides and Felin continuing to deal well with the attacking pressure of the table-toppers.

With 15 minutes left and still at 2-0, Felin changed shape to try and push further forwards and take the game to Quay.

The hosts were awarded a free kick, whipped in by Llywela Edwards and Jay Greenough was fouled in the box, leading to a penalty. Katie Houghton stepped up and scored with a fine kick to halve the deficit.

Quay pushed on and when the ball fell to Ella Jones, again, she had no hesitation in finding the net. A very well taken goal and her 20th in the league in just seven matches this term, making her far and away the Adran North top markswoman in 2025-26.

Felin didn’t give up and were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position in the final minutes of the match. Taken well by Llywela Edwards again, the powerful shot bounced out of the keeper’s palms and straight on to the head of Jenna Allsup who headed home tidily – great goal poaching.

Felinheli coach Llio Emyr said: “Overall very happy with the performance. With many injuries during the match and key players out with injuries and illnesses, the girls performed superbly.

“A scoreline of 3-2 is very respectable against the league’s top team. We wish Connah’s Quay the best of luck with the final few games of the campaign.”
