(Henllan won 5-4 on penalties)

Henllan prevailed in a penalty shoot-out at St Asaph Leisure Centre to reach the semi-finals of the North Wales Coast Women’s League Cup.

The home side started out on the front foot with Mabli Fitzgerald looking lively in the first quarter of an hour.

Henllan took the lead on 17 minutes when Lleucu Williams scored via a brilliant free kick from distance.

With the wind behind them, Henllan went in search of a crucial second goal before half time but to no avail.

Ella Simcox on the ball for Henllan

In the second half Caernarfon had much more of the play, and equalised on 55 minutes when Heledd Evans managed to score from a tight angle,

Dewi Owen, who has taken over as caretaker-manager until the end of the season, saw his team take the ascendency in the last half hour, but the Henllan defence of Ella Simcox, Lydia Davies, Magi Pierce, Elin Griffith and substitute Ella Allen held firm.

The away team were also guilty of wasting some clear cut chances and had an opportunity to win it with the last kick of the 90 when Elan Evans went through on goal but her shot sailed over the bar.

Extra time couldn’t separate the two sides and Henllan came out on top in the penalty shoot out winning 5-4 with Magi Pierce, Mabli Fitzgerald, Ella Simcox, Lydia Davies and Abby Catell all scoring from the spot to secure a semi final appearance.
