Three CPD Y Rhyl 1879 players who starred in a victory that shattered Llandudno’s unbeaten record in Cymru North have been included in the JD Cymru Leagues Team of the Week.
Goalkeeper Alex Swindell, outstanding in the 3-1 victory at the Hops and Barley Community Stadium, midfield ace Rocco Hewitt and key substitute Damase Kiwanda all make the latest selection of the elite 11.
Second half substitute Kiwanda scored 1879’s crucial equaliser on 74 minutes and then set up Archie Jones to make it 2-1 before Jack Parry bagged a third in added time.
Two Connah’s Quay Nomads stars also made the team – goal-getters Noah Edwards and Callum West, who helped John Disney’s men turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win over Barry Town United with a brilliant goal apiece.
Nomads were one-down entering the last quarter-hour when West concocted a magnificent strike to equalise, then the busy Edwards turned sharply in the box before slotting home.
Rhys Hughes added number three in overtime to ensure Nomads made it eight straight league victories and moved to within a point of leaders The New Saints.
To make it a Nomads treble, John Disney (pictured above) is named Manager of the Team of the Week.
There is also a place for Flint Town United skipper Harry Owen, who headed in the decider in his team’s superb 2-1 triumph at Colwyn Bay, and Morgan Owen, who gave his usual impeccable performance for Caernarfon Town in their win at Bala Town.
