Three magnificent late goals seal eighth straight league win for Nomads

JD CYMRU PREMIER – SATURDAY, JANUARY 3, 2026

Connah’s Quay Nomads 3 (West 73, Edwards 78, Hughes 90)
Barry Town United 1 (Owen 19)

Now the gap is just a point!

On-fire Connah’s Quay Nomads are giving champions The New Saints plenty to think about at the start of 2026.

John Disnley’s side made it eight straight league wins and 13 without defeat after fighting back from a goal down to see off Barry with three superb late strikes on Saturday.

The Reds are now just a point behind leaders Saints, who have played a game less. The Oswestry side’s match against Bala on Saturday was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Ieuan Owen put Barry ahead after 19 minutes at Cae y Castell, but Callum West equalised with a quarter of an hour left to give Connah’s Quay hope.

West turned sharply, battled hard to keep hold of the ball, worked it onto his left foot and drilled home a magnificent unstoppable shot from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Five minutes later Noah Edwards scored Nomads’ second with a razor-sharp turn and left-foot finish inside the box. Edwards celebrated like a man possessed – and he deserved to.

With Barry keeper George Ratcliffe stranded, Rhys Hughes sealed the win with a third in added time – an exquisite curler to beat the defender on the line.
