Half an hour’s blitz was all Harry Massey needed to demolish AFC Deeside. The Overton Recreational striker netted all six goals in his team’s NEWFA Trophy victory.
Massey is now on 32 goals for the season from just 13 appearances. He is joint top-scorer in senior North Wales football with Llanuwchllyn’s Meilir Williams.
They’ll soon be running out of match balls to give Massey if he keeps up his phenomenal scoring feats.
Overton kept up their 100% record in the Trophy, while Yr Wyddgrug also have a share of top spot following their success at Skippy.
The Trophy has turned out to be a welcome distraction from the league for Yr Wyddgrug, judging by their sharp contrast in results.
At the halfway point in Division One and with Broughton United not in action, there was a chance for the chasing pack to stake their claim. FC Queen’s Park shot up to second with their 5-0 triumph at Rhostyllen.
They lie eight points behind Broughton, but have a game in hand. Two more strikes by Michael Latham put him on 13 league goals for the season. Hawarden’s Thomas Bridges is hot on his trail, as he also netted twice.
Hawarden could have had a share of second place, but surrendered a 3-0 lead against struggling Penyffordd, who won 5-4
It’s opened things up at the bottom, as with Penyffordd and Ruabon Rovers both winning it sucks Chirk AAA into the danger zone.
Aston Park Rangers ensured they top the Division Two pile during the Christmas break. CPD Caerwys continue to run away with the Division Three lead, but a late show from CPD Gronant moved them up the table and special mention goes to Thomas Bamber for his four-goal haul.
The top two in Reserve Division One met on Friday evening and couldn’t be separated. Penycae took advantage to cut the gap in third place.
Broughton’s reserves surrendered a two goal advantage late on and FC Queen’s Park reduced the gap at the top to just two points after beating Ruthin Town Colts.
