NWCFA JUNIOR CUP: Mountain Rangers edge past Deiniolen to reach semi-finals

Mountain Rangers line up at the start of the season

NWCFA JUNIOR CUP QUARTER-FINAL – NOVEMBER 15

CPD Mountain Rangers 1 (A Williams 48)
CPD Deiniolen 0

Mountain Rangers joined Aberffraw, Llandyrnog United and Llanfairpwll in the semi-finals of the 2025-26 NWCFA Junior Cup after a hard-fought win over Deiniolen at Treborth Playing Fields.

Three-times runners-up in this competition, this season marks the 50th anniversary of the last final appearance for Rangers back in 1975-76 when they lost to Llanfairpwll.

The only goal of Saturday’s all-North Wales Coast West Division One showdown was scored by Aeron Williams in the 48th minute.

Dion Jones took a shot which was blocked, but Williams followed up to notch a beautiful poacher’s goal.

In the first half, Rangers were the better team with the clearer chances, but the final touch was lacking,

Dion Jones went closest when his effort was blocked on the line.

Deiniolen took their time to settle and were unable to carve out any real opportunities.

In the second half, Rangers came out much the same and found the vital goal through Williams early on.

A few more chances and some good football came from Rangers in the first 20 minutes before Deiniolen made some changes to get back in the match.

A switch in formation from the visitors saw them gain more possession and play the better football for a spell of the game, forcing some good stops from Rangers keeper Darryl Edwards and a few important blocks from home defenders.

Rangers sub Caio Edwards went through 1 on 1 in the final few minutes and rounded the GK only for Deiniolen centre back Deio Roberts to get back in time and clear the danger. Edwards also had a goal ruled out for offside.

Deiniolen forced a few corners in added time and a very important save from Darryl Edwards kept it at 1-0. The visitors hit the post and Edwards somehow managed to get a hand to the rebound off the line.

Overall a very good match, great atmosphere and competitiveness, the referee letting the game flow nicely only stopping when needed.

Rangers extended their unbeaten run to seven matches.
