Two subs score hat-tricks as Pwllheli hit 11 goals against depleted yet determined Henllan

Not often do two substitutes score hat-tricks in a game but that is what happened when Pwllheli took on a depleted Henllan side on Sunday.

Second-half replacements Jini Owen Hughes and Nia Wyn Jones both netted three apiece as the Llŷn Peninsula rattled up double figures at The Rec.

It was 4-0 at half time, the in-form Sian Moore, who bagged five the previous weekend, delivering a double on this occasion after 25 and 31 minutes, Stacey Sansome striking on 15 and Leanne Rees-Hughes with 37 gone.

The second stanza saw Nia Wyn Jones take the field on 51 minutes and Jini Owen Hughes after 67.

It remained 4-0 until the 70th minute – then the floodgates opened.

Hughes netted on 70, 79 and 88, Jones made the scoresheet after 75, 77 and 90 and Awel Ellis notched her first for the club with 71 on the clock.

Assists: Magi Hughes 3, Moore, Leanne Rees-Hughes and Jini Owen Hughes one apiece.

CPD Henllan report

Henllan had just 12 players available. Knowing they either had to fulfill the fixture or face a three-point deduction, they made the long journey to Pwllheli and gave it their all.
Key players Jade Scott and Lleucu.Williams were among those missing.
The visitors went close to scoring in the first minute when Mabli Fitzgerald’s shot was saved by Sara Williams.
The Denbighshire team matched the reigning champions for the first 20 minutes, with only a goal by Sansome separating the two teams.
Two quick goals by in-form winger Moore made it 3-0.
Things got much tougher for the away side when keeper Rhian Edwards had to leave the field with a back injury after 33 minutes, Ella Simcox taking over for the second week running,
Leanne Rees-Hughes made it four before half time.
Amy Woodbridge, who took a knock in the first half, went in goal for the visitors and kept Pwllheli at bay until the 70th minute when Jini Owen Hughes made it 5-0, going on to score a hat-trick, as did fellow sub Nia Jones.
Awel Ellis also found the back of the net.
It was a very tough day for Henllan but they kept on battling in terrible conditions until the end with two 16-year-olds and six under-19s making up the majority of the 12 available against probably the best team they have played against since they joined the league.
Scoring some fantastic goals in the last 20 minutes, one could see why Pwllheli have had so much success over the last few years with Lowri Hughes outstanding in defence.
