North East Wales League: Goals and sendings off galore as new knockout competition launches

Tom Huxley scored a double hat-trick for Overton Recreational

The newly-introduced NEWFA Trophy began its life on Saturday with a league phase – and to say there was plenty of incident would be an understatement.

The CPD Caerwys v Cefn Druids tie was abandoned on 83 minutes by the referee after what is reported as a mass brawl broke out. Two members of either side had been sent off.

Meanwhile, goals were in plentiful supply at CPD Gronant where away side CPD Yr Wyddgrug triumphed 7-5.

Tom Huxley scored six goals and Harry Massey a hat-trick in Overton Recreation’s 9-0 away drubbing of Johnstown YFC.

It was a unique day if you backed the away teams to win on your Division 1 accumulator. All five winners were victorious on their opponents’ grounds.

Both Hawarden and Coedpoeth matched each others results and share the lead at the top of the table.

FC Queen’s Park’s Michael Latham’s double saw him pull clear at the top of the scoring charts with 8 league goals for the season.

Mynydd Isa maintain their lead at the top of Reserve Division 1. Brickfield’s Kian Davies netted his 9th and 10th of the season in a 4-0 victory at Llangollen.

Broughton United Reserves surrendered a 3-0 lead and their place at the top of Division 2.

Michael Parry’s four goal haul for FC Queen’s Park Reserves brings him to second in the scoring charts.

One place above is team-mate Sean Humphreys with double Parry’s tally on 14.
