North East Wales League round-up: Sychdyn and Caerwys retain 100% records

NEWFA Senior Challenge Cup – Qualifying

Hawarden Rangers 1
Ruabon Rovers 1
Hawarden won 4-2 on penalties)

Hawarden prevailed on spot-kicks after being given a really tough battle by visitors Ruabon.
Iwan Jones put Rangers in front on 51 minutes, but a Louis Anglesea own goal levelled it after 53. The hosts won 4-2 on penalties.

NEWFA Reserve Cup – Knockout Stage

Ruthin Town Colts 2

Good cup win for Lex, who led 3-0, were pulled back to 3-2 early in the second half, but eventually sealed their passage into the next round.
Bradley Wynne (20 minutes), Alex Sheriff and Tyler Moorcroft-Jones (both 38) handed the Lawmen a three-goal cushion at the break.
However, Gruff Jones replied for Colts on 50 and a minute later Sam Evans converted a penalty to edge the visitors much closer.
And the tie was far from over until George Baxter made it 4-2 five minutes into added time.

Aston Park Rangers 2

All-square in the battle of the ‘A’ teams.
Niall Challoner scored from the spot for Acton after 20 and 78, while Kallum Pierce and Adam Randles replied for APR on 45+2 and 55 respectively.
Acton had goalkeeper Finlay Wilson sent off on 81, but there was no further score from that point.

Cefn Druids 2

Ricky Evans

Brymbo versus Cefn Druids – once a fixture at Tier 2 but now both sides operate in Tier 5.
Today’s clash featured a Welsh Premier legend on the scoresheet, 48-year-old Ricky Evans opening the scoring for the Steelmen after seven minutes.
Further goals from Bradley Dobson (12), Jacob Edwards (OG 22) and Jordan Reid (46) put the hosts four-up before a Keanu Williams second-half double (67 and 90+5) brought some respectability to the scoreline for the Ancients.

Holywell United 1
CPD Sychdyn United 5

Leaders Sychdyn retained their 100 percent record in Division 2 with a convincing success at Holywell United.
Linden Puckey put the visitors one-up on eight minutes, Evan Davies levelled after 32, but Harvey Hammersley restored the away lead on 34 – half time 1-2.
Three late goals clinched it for the table-toppers, Shay Davies on 73, Kieran Durkin after 77 and Shea Harding with 88 gone.
Davies was dismissed on 75 for a second booking.

Deeside Dragons 3
CPD Cei Connah 2

Jack Radford (35 minutes), Joshua Radford (52) and Keiye Williams (67) bagged the goals which won the day for Dragons, Damon Bradley (18) and Mitchell Williams (90+2) running Cei Connah close.

CPD Caerwys 8
Bellevue 3

Four out of four for Caerwys, Ryan Carrington scoring SIX goals to put him well clear in the scoring chart on 13.
Carrington struck on 9, pen 28, 45, 54, 73 and 76 minutes, with Callum Pritchard (33) and Aled Reece (56) also on target, while Mikey Bagnall (37 & 68) and Tom Skeel (89) hit back for Bellevue.

Johnstown YFC 3

Goals from Callum Poole (2 mins), Morgan Harris (26) and Finnley Poole (90+4) ensured Johnstown celebrated their first win, Jason Ratcliffe responding for Skippy with a 40th minute spot-kick.
