Llanrwst United made it two league wins out of two at home by seeing off Connah’s Quay Town at a sun-kissed Gwydir Park.
A goal in each half from Callum Parry and Sam Thomas was enough to secure a 2-0 win and propel the Roosters up the league table.
Both teams had only won one of their opening four league matches coming into the weekend and were eager to kickstart their respective seasons.
Quay’s Pascal Gomez almost gave the visitors the perfect start. The frontman dispossessed the home defence and lofted the ball over advancing goalkeeper Cian Williams, only to see his effort hit the woodwork.
The hosts took advantage of slack defending to take the lead. A poorly headed clearance landed at the feet of Parry, who tucked in from close range.
Since the start of 2019-20, Parry has netted a tremendous 108 goals in all competitions for Llanrwst’s first team, also fitting in spells with Holyhead Hotspur, Colwyn Bay, Porthmadog and CPD Y Rhyl 1879 over that period.
It was another poor defensive display which allowed Llanrwst to double their lead just before the hour mark. Quay failed to clear a corner into the box, and amid a goal line scramble, Thomas poked the ball home.
The home side could have added more to their tally, but young striker Cieran Williams couldn’t take advantage of a few sights at goal and Cai Evans’s effort bounced down off the crossbar and was cleared.
