North Wales quartet perform well at Colshaw Hall 10k

Four members of North Wales Road Runners competed in the Colshaw Hall 10k race on June 15 in near perfect conditions and celebrated some excellent results.

Will Williams recorded a superb new PB, but he was just seven-seconds adrift of his estimated target, finishing in 95th place out of 1,137 entrants in 36 minutes and 7 seconds, and 5th in his VM50 age category.

After his event, Wiil said: “A massive PB, though I thought I had dipped under 36 minutes. Not quite, but next time, I think I will get it!”

Carla Green

Carla Green was 48th female finisher and 320th overall, with a good time of 43.07, whilst Kay Hatton claimed 5th VW60 in 47.51, and master veteran Mike Hayton was 852nd and 5th M70 cat in 1.07.32.

The 10k race winner was Ben Connor (Derby AC) in 29.29, with Nick Hauger 2nd in 29.35, and Lee Gratton (Rugeley Runners) 3rd in 29.38. The 1st female finisher was Samantha Harrison (Mansfield Harriers) 22nd overall in 32.34, with Sarah Dufour-Jackson 2nd and 36th overall in 33.09, and Kirsty Longley finished in 57th place overall to claim the 3rd female spot.

Parkrun round-up

Penrhyn

There was a good turnout of 224 entrants at the Penrhyn Castle Parkrun on June 14 and the first runner home was Gavin Thomas Stuart with a fast time of just 16.35.

The second-placed athlete’s name remained unknown at the time of writing, but the 3rd man was Russell Bentley (Kent AC) in 16.40.

First female was visitor Lucy Hoade (University of Exeter Tri Club), who was 21st overall on her course debut in 21.54, Louise Bromwell (Cybi Striders) was 2nd and 26th overall in 22.35, with Sarah Thorne (Steel City Striders), 31st overall and 3rd female on her debut in 22.52.

NWRRC super veteran Sandy Johnston placed 38th and won his VM75 age cat in 23.39, with colleague John O’Shea 162nd in 32.03.

Prestatyn

Freddy Kofl Phipps Ward (Hucclecote Harriers) was the 1st finisher overall at the Nova Parkrun at Prestatyn with a great run on his course debut in 17.01.

James Yarwood (Wrexham AAC) was 2nd in 17.19. Top female was Devon Phipps, 23rd overall on debut in 21.57, Megan Lewis (Prestatyn RC) was 28th overall, and 2nd female with a new PB in 22.57, and Lily Lofthouse also celebrated a new course PB of 23.47 in 36th place overall.

Steve Mason (NWRRC) ran with his dog Coco as a backmarker, and he finished 197th place in 47.11. There were 213 finishers.

Newborough

Visitor Andrew Dunning was first home out of 132 entrants on Anglesey at the Newborough Forest Parkrun on his course debut in 18.05, with Griff Roberts (Eryri Harriers) 2nd in 18.58, and Alun Brown (GOG Triathlon) 3rd with a new PB in 19.09.

First female was Georgia Palmer, 22nd overall, on her course debut in 23.37, and junior athlete Chloe Cattroll was only 10 seconds behind in 23rd, but won her JW11-14 age cat in 23.47, with Harriet Lane 3rd, and 26th overall in 24.20.

Greenfield

Stuart Culverhouse (NWRRC) finished 3rd overall at the Greenfield Valley Parkrun and won his VM50 age cat with an excellent run in 20.39.
