Stars of the future to meet legends of past and present in Caernarfon football showpiece

To mark the relaunch of CPD Caernarfon Borough this season, the club has organised a friendly against a very special group of opponents at the weekend.

Boro’s new young side will take on a Caernarfon Town All Stars XI at The Oval this Saturday, June 28, kick-off 3 pm.

Caernarfon Borough, who competed in the Caernarfon and District and Gwynedd Leagues between 1985-1997, folded, then reformed and campaigned in the C & D between 2003-24 and 2012-13, are back in local football this season 40 years after their formation.

Boro won the prestigious NWCFA Junior Cup in 2005/06, becoming the first Caernarfon team to lift the trophy in the competition’s 113-year history, and landed an impressive double of Kon-X Wales and Moorings Cup in 2012 before sadly disbanding again in 2014.

Respected author and Caernarfon area football figure Alex Philp will lead the new Boro in tier 5 North Wales Coast West Division One this coming season as a means of giving young local talent an opportunity to flourish.

If the Boro class of 2025-26 are mere footballing fledglings, then the Caernarfon Town All Stars are quite the opposite.

Some of the Town squad are still playing, while others have retired but remain in decent enough shape to put in a good shift.

One thing they all have in common is a proud association with Caernarfon Town where all have achieved great things.

  • Alex Philp has famously written books about both clubs: Local Heroes and C’mon The Town – twelve memorable seasons about the Canaries and Caernarfon area football, plus Borough Boys – The story of Caernarfon’s second favourite team Volume 1 (1985-1997), released last November.
