Airbus stayed on course for a trophy treble as they reached the NEWFA Challenge Cup Final with a penalties victory over tier 3 side Corwen in Tuesday night’s semi at Buckley.

There was heartbreak for Ardal North West outfit Corwen, who led 3-1 until the closing minutes only to be forced into extra time and then a spot-kicks shootout which the Wingmakers edged 4-3.

Having won the Welsh Blood Service National League Cup at the weekend on the back of lifting the northern trophy a week earlier, Mark Allen’s side will now take on Holywell Town in the final of the NEWFA Challenge Cup.

Corwen were in control for much of Tuesday’s last-four tie, Calyn Spencer giving them a 40th minute lead via a Les Brophy assist.

Kaiden Cooke levelled in added time at the end of the half, but there was still enough left on the clock for Spencer to make it 2-1 before the interval, Scott Evans this time the supplier.

It looked really good for the underdogs in the 53rd minute when Dafydd Evans put them 3-1 up, Spencer this time assisting.

Hugh Holland cut the deficit in the 80th minute before Oliver Lanceley equalised after 85.

No further goals in the added half-hour, so it went 4-4 on spot kicks before Spencer missed and Ieuan Jones-Wellstead put away the winning kick for the Wingmakers.
