JD CYMRU NORTH – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6

Colwyn Bay 3 Ruthin Town 0

Bay made it a fantastic 12 league wins in a row on Friday, but astonishingly they are still not quite yet halfway to matching their own joint Cymru North all-time record for successive victories.

In their Tier 2 title-winning season of 2022-23, Steve Evans’ side won 25 league matches on the bounce – a feat matched by nearest challenges Holywell Town just two weeks later.

Friday saw Mike Wilde’s men close the gap on leaders Airbus to four points with a home success over Ruthin Town.

In a good contest where Ruthin more than played their part, both sides gave everything in difficult rain-lashed conditions, but it was the Bay who continued their winning form.

The Seagulls started well with Ethan Roberts having an early shot cleared off the line and Ruthin keeper Dan Goldston had to make two good saves to deny Craig Lindfield, from six yards out, and Jamie Cumming from the edge of the area.

Gwion Dafydd opened the scoring on 34 minutes after great play by Cai Owen.

In the second half Sol Forde had a header from a corner saved by Goldston and Cumming shot just wide, before Gwion Dafydd doubled the lead on 59 minutes.

Tommy Creamer provided the final pass for Dafydd to finish coolly for his second goal of the game.

Lewis Sirrell than added a third following a goalmouth scramble from Cumming’s free kick into the area.

Ruthin never gave up and Rhys Williams had to make a good save near the end to preserve Bay’s second successive clean sheet.

As well as recording a 12th consecutive league victory, Bay are undefeated in 18 matches in all competitions.
