Cookson Cup: Semis draw pairs last season’s finalists, plus quarter-final reports

In a repeat of last year’s final, Cookson Cup holders Kinmel Bay will meet Llandudno Junction in the semis of this season’s competition.

Bay, who defeated Junction 1-0 in April 2024 to lift the trophy for the first time, will take on the Railwaymen again in the last four on February 22, 2025.

In the other semi, Cerrigydrudion and Penmaenmawr Phoenix will lock horns on the same date.

Connor Morris made it 10 goals in his last eight games with a match-winning double at Bastion Gardens on Saturday.

The Kinmel Bay striker, who arrived at Y Morfa at the start of 2022-23, has netted a fantastic 76 goals in 75 matches across all competitions for the club, where he is now in his third season.

The 26-year-old kept Bay’s hopes of lifting back-to-back Cookson Cups alive by scoring on 21 and 84 minutes, Liam Jones and Jordan Bellham with the assists.

Robbie Parry replied for Bow on 68 minutes with his 10th goal of the season, Jenson Wold assisting.

CPD Llansannan 3 Llandudno Junction 6

The prolific Dave Maddock pocketed a hat-trick which helped Junction advance to the last four.

It was a second treble of the campaign for the 33-year-old, who is up to 13 goals this term.

Dan Prince, who was sent off on 88 for two yellows, Jack Williams and captain Stephen O’Neill added singles for the Railwaymen.

Andrew Thomas, Ben Allis and Jack Davies were on target for the hosts.

CPD Y Glannau 2 CPD Cerrigydrudion 5

Quick revenge for Cerrig, who lost 2-1 at home to North Wales Coast East Premier leaders CPD Y Glannau the previous weekend, but bounced back with a 5-2 success in the Cookson Cup at Glan Clwyd Sports Centre.

Captain Tomos Tryfan Jones (2, 1 pen), Tomos Watkin-Jones, Iorwerth Jones and Alfie Harrison shared the away goals, Dan Price and captain Joey Fontana replying for the hosts, whose eight-match unbeaten run came to an end.

Llandudno Amateurs 0 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 3

Phoenix completed quick back-to-back victories over the Amateurs, whom they beat 7-0 at home in the league seven days earlier.

It was a closer affair in the Cookson Cup, but still Pen were worthy winners.

Adam Hold notched two second-half goals for the visitors, Ricky Jones and Jamie Jones with the assists, and Billy Sieben made it 3-0 after 86 minutes, Logan Williams with the set-up.
