NWCFA Development League: wins for table toppers Penmaenmawr and Trearddur Bay

The skipper stood out for Penmaenmawr

NWCFA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE EAST

Bow Development 2 Penmaenmawr Phoenix Development 4

Not only did a very young Penmaenmawr side end Bow Development’s unbeaten record, they also took over top spot in the East division.

In atrocious conditions, Phoenix began on the front foot, dominating possession and creating chances.

Their two young wingbacks, Lewis Williams and Meilir Evans, found lots of joy down the flanks.

After four minutes Benn Lundstram was fouled on the edge of the box. The returning Morgan Roberts curled the resultant free kick into the top right-hand corner.

Bow responded by creating a few half-chances whilst never really bothering young Iolo Brown in goal.

In the 45th minute the home side were awarded a disputed penalty which John Atherton converted to make it one-apiece at the break.

Penmaenmawr came out the stronger in the second half and in the 58th minute were rewarded for their persistence when man of the match and captain Allen Padua slid the ball to Lundstram, who rifled into the bottom corner.

A lapse in concentration at the back post in the 71st minute allowed Bow to equalise through Cam Vaughan.

Some inspired substitutions galvanised Pen and five minutes after entering the fray coach Adam Jones was played through on goal by Lundstram and slid the ball into the net.

The tackles were fierce from the hosts, but Pen stood strong and in the 89th minute Adam Jones returned the favour and fed Lundstram to score his second of the afternoon.

Credit to Penmaenmawr, who had 9 players in the squad under-21, they stood tall against very physical opponents.

Louis Gizzi (2), Andrew George and a Mitchell Knight own goal made up the home side’s tally.

Prestatyn Wanderers Development 0 Kinmel Bay Development 4

Harry Woodfine, Jacob Jones, an Alan Maylor own goal and a Cameron Berry finish ensured Bay ran out convincing winners.

CPD Pentraeth Development 3 Trearddur Bay Development 7

A fourth straight win for leaders Trearddur Bay, Dave Webb, Cameron Buckley (2), Adam Morris, Lennon Owen, Harri Hughes and Casey Gregg splitting their seven goals at Bryniau Field.

Ryan Shaw, Kian Zoller and Charles Craig responded for the hosts.

Winning manager Scott Hakesley said: “First half in very poor conditions saw us start slow and force the play, which wasn’t working on a very wet surface.

“However, after getting into our stride we produced some nice interchange through man of the match Cameron Buckley to find Dave Webb for our opener.

“Pentraeth soon replied through Ryan Shaw, but we capitalised on the whistle through Cameron to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

“We felt the formation wasn’t working so changed it slightly and in the second half there was only one team looking to win.

“Goals came on 49 minutes, Adam Morris winning his header through a Lennon Owen assist, another on 50 saw Lennon arriving late to score from a Cameron assist to make it 4-1.

“And after 51 minutes another goal from Cameron with Lennon assisting made it 5-1.

“After changes for us Pentraeth replied to make it 5-2 through Kian Zoller, who we felt was their MOTM.

“More changes and the game became stop-start, but Harri Hughes from a Callum assist and Casey Gregg from Cameron, who made it a hat-trick of assists, made it 7-2 before a mix up allowed Pentraeth a consolation goal.

“Very competitive game, very end to end with the weather making for interesting viewing at times.”

Llanrug United Development 6 Nantlle Vale Development 2

Nathan Ash (2), Sion Prysor (2), Josh Evans and Ifan Evans shared Llanrug’s six-goal salvo, while Tomos Jones and Cian Dafydd replied for Vale.
