Midweek Cymru North reports: Airbus are flying, Bangor soaring, Bay beat champions

Had they been offered 4-0 and 3-0 wins in their first two games of the season against Colwyn Bay and Mold respectively, Bangor 1876 would surely have snapped the proverbial hand off.

And that is exactly what Michael Johnston’s team have achieved at the start of their second campaign as a Cymru North side.

Tuesday night’s tussle at Bangor City Stadium produced a goalless first half.

The biggest talking point saw Mason Blackwell-Jones’ corner headed goalwards by defender Jake Ellison.

The ball crashed against the underside of the crossbar and was cleared off the line.

There were shouts from Bangor players who were adamant that the ball was handled by Mold’s Ryan Coney, but the score remained level.

Early in the second half, Craig Whelan’s deflected shot forced a fine reaction save from Alex keeper Joe Smith.

Soon after Corey Jones volleyed in a Dale Davies cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Bangor finally took the lead on the hour when Cai Powell-Roberts found Davies on the right. His cross was volleyed home by Liam Morris.

Midfielder Tom Mahoney doubled the home lead on 68. Smith kept out the No8’s first effort, but Mahoney scored at the second attempt, rolling the ball just inside the near post.

Morris was denied by Smith before Bangor made it game, set and match on 85.

Mahoney crossed into substitute Harry Galeotti, who chested down and lashed in on the half-volley.

Mold were reduced to 10 men when Taylor Edwards was shown a straight red card.

Airbus UK Broughton 5 Llandudno 0

Deadly Danny Warren bagged a superb hat-trick as early league leaders Airbus UK Broughton went nap over Llandudno at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

George Peers struck first for the Wingmakers as he rounded keeper Cameron Darling before calmly slotting into an empty net.

Close to half time, a mistake from Darling allowed Jordan Evans to add a second before Warren made it three with a fierce strike.

Warren got his second after he converted from the penalty spot and made it a treble when he headed home Joe Palmer’s cross.

Colwyn Bay 2 Holywell Town 0

Michael Wilde will never forget his first win as Colwyn Bay manager – it came at the expense of champions Holywell Town.

New signing Gwion Dafydd opened his account for the Seagulls with a poacher’s finish inside the area on the half hour mark.

Holywell pushed for an equaliser, but were caught out on a counter-attack in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Josh Carey drilled ome.

Bay goalkeeper Rhys Williams was sent off for a second bookable offence in the dying stages.

Never write Ruthin Town off.

So often over the years, they have suffered a knockback only to confound the critics and rebound with an inspiring win.

Such a case occurred on Tuesday, as Dave Evans’ side wiped out the memory of an opening game 7-0 defeat at promoted Flint Mountain to come from behind and see off another Cymru North new face in Llay.

Owen Payne set up both Samuel John and Matthew Worrall as Llay opened up a two-goal lead with half an hour played.

Jake Hampson’s penalty halved the deficit, but Cavan Daley grabbed a third for the hosts seven minutes into the second half.

Ruthin youngster Ethan Davies replied before another Hampson penalty levelled the score.

Town were now rampant and a goal from teenage substitute Harry Martin completed the turnaround before Jack Edwards ensured victory in stoppage time.

Buckley Town 3 Gresford Athletic 0

Magic Max Moore starred once again for Buckley Town as his goal and assist helped secure success over Gresford Athletic at The Globe.

Brad Knight’s deflected effort fell kindly to the feet of Scott McHarrie, who opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Midway through the second half, Bucks got their second as Moore latched onto Adam Boydell’s through ball and fired home into the top corner.

Moore then turned provider as he set up Rhys Edwards four minutes later to wrap up an impressive victory for Asa Hamilton’s side.
