Hogan Gwynedd & Môn Summer Netball League – Mavericks win a thriller, Rebals on fire

Genod Walis put up a fantastic effort against Pwllheli Hustlers

Wednesday night’s latest round of matches in the Hogan Gwynedd and Môn Summer Netball League Division One saw Menai Mavericks beat Pwllheli Panthers 27-23 in a top of the table thriller.

In what was Week 11 for the top division, Panthers won the first quarter 7-5, but Mavericks fought back to lead 15-14 at the midway stage.

By the end of quarter three, it was 21-19 to Menai and all to play for.

The last went the Anglesey side’s way 6-4, which meant a 27-23 victory for them.

Players’ Player and Umpires Player of the Match for Mavericks was Steff Oliver-Smith, while Daisy Doodson was PP and Tara Thorne UP for the Panthers.

Arfon Ladies defeated Walis Bryncoch 29-21.

Although Arfon held a handy lead throughout, Bryncoch did finish well, taking the final quarter 9-5.

Dolgellau triumphed 23-20 over Dyffryn Ladies in a close one.

The first two sessions went 6-4 and 5-4 to Dol, giving them an 11-8 interval advantage.

Dolgellau led 20-14 entering the curtain closer, which Dyffryn did well to win 6-3.

Umpires Player: Dolgellau – Ceris Hughes; Dyffryn – Cadi Jones.

Holyhead enjoyed a resounding 39-10 victory against Tim o Walis.

Jo Thomas was Players Player and Umpires Player for the Holy Islanders, while Walis PP was Manon Thomas with the UP Alaw Roberts.

Fflamau Brynrefs outscored Primos 35-24.

Players Player and Umpires Player: Fflamau – Madi Humphreys; Primos – Gwenno Llwyd-Jones.

This completes the first phase of the 2024 Summer League season. A split now occurs before the second half commences.

Division 2 – week 10

Pwllheli Hustlers edged a 23-20 win over Genod Walis in Division 2 matches played on Tuesday, July 23.

Hustlers led 17-10 at half time, but Genod fought back brilliantly to take the third 8-2 to trail just 19-18 going into the last.

Pwllheli pulled out all the stops to edge that session 4-2 to win the match.

PYG Thundercats clawed out a 34-22 victory over PYG Thunderkittens.

Porthmadog battled on bravely despite only having 5 players in their 51-12 loss to Rebals Refail.

Walis Wariars got past the challenge of Blaenau Ffestiniog 21-16.

Ffestiniog edged the opener 8-6, but by the halfway point were 15-9 down.

Wariars took the third 4-3, but Blaenau rallied to win the last 4-2.

Walis Tomos Parry saw off Bethesda Bach 38-14.

Pesda did well to lose the second just 7-6, but the other quarters saw Parry on top.
