Rhos United sign a proven goalscorer for 2023-24 season

Mike Chapman

One of North Wales football’s most prolific marksmen of recent seasons has joined the Rhos revolution.

Mike Chapman has signed for Rhos United from Llandudno Amateurs, where he netted 24 goals last season.

Chapman has scored goals wherever he has played.

In Llandudno Albion’s first-ever season, 2014-15, he netted 37 times, bagging seven hat-tricks and scoring eight times in one game.

He later had a productive two seasons with Llanfairfechan Town under Sandy Malone, who then took over the reborn Llandudno Amateurs in 2017-18 and brought Chapman with him.

Chapman was a big success with the Amateurs in their first three seasons, but decided to move to Llandudno Athletic midway through 2019-20, due to travelling issues in the then Welsh Alliance.

In September 2020, Chapman returned to Llandudno Amateurs, but with the entire 2020-21 season cancelled below tier 1 never got to play a game.

He remained with the Amateurs for 2021-22, netting 23 times in 22 matches before switching to Llanelwy Athletic/CPD Gronant, bagging 16 goals in 13 games, including four on debut.

The start of 2022-23 brought a surprise move to Betws-y-Coed, followed by a stint with newly-formed Bow, where he hit 10 goals in 13 appearances.

Last season Chapman returned to Llandudno Amateurs, where he scooped 24 goals in 27 outings for the North Wales Coast East Division One runners-up.

On his move to Rhos, the 35-year-old Chapman said: “After speaking to Rhos management team and hearing their aims and ambitions for the season, I felt it was a great opportunity to get involved with something special. I hope to bring alot of goals and hopefully silverware to the club.

“I’d also like to thank Llandudno Amateurs for last season and wish them all the best next season.”

Rhos United’s management said: “We at Rhos are over the moon to get Chapman on board. He’s such an intelligent player who gets everyone playing good football, his stats speak for themselves.

“We can’t wait for Chapman to keep adding to his goals and assists tally in a Rhos United shirt too.”
