An all-Cymru North last eight tie at the Memorial Playing Fields on Tuesday night was goalless until Buxton hit the winner two minutes from time.

Earlier, Callum Mannion and Charlie Mann saw good efforts saved by Ruthin keeper Dan Goldston.

Midfielder Jordan Pownall was named Athletic’s man of the match following an all-action display.

NORTH EAST WALES FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Premier Division

Connah’s Quay Town 0 Coedpoeth United 2

Two second-half goals a minute apart from Adam Lloyd earned Coedpoeth United a surprise first win in eight league attempts at the expense of a Connah’s Quay Town outfit whose slim hopes of the title became much slimmer.

Lloyd broke the deadlock on 71 minutes before adding a penalty soon after to revive next-to-bottom Coedy’s fortunes.

Championship Division

Brymbo 2 Johnstown 3

Captain Keneth Davies sealed a dramatic late win for Johnstown with an 89th minute decider.

Rob Cooper handed Brymbo a 20th minute lead before Dewi Reeves levelled with 40 on the clock.

Reeves struck again for the visitors on 51, but Joshua Price made it 2-2 after 64 and a draw looked likely until Davies plundered the clincher.

Rhydymwyn 1 CPD Yr Wyddgrug 3

In two previous meetings with Rhydymwyn this season, Yr Wyddgrug had been defeated convincingly, but the league new boys got it right on Tuesday night at the Mighty Mornflake Oats Ground.

Rhyd could not keep up with the Joneses as Harry scored twice and David was also on target for the visitors.

Liam Simon netted the home side’s reply.
